Update

May 4th, 2009

Last chemo kinda sucked but mostly wasn’t too bad, only Saturday sucked extra but I ended up sleeping the vast majority of the day.  I went to bed on Friday at like 1am or 2am or something and then woke up at like 1pm, after waking up once or twice and taking a piss and going back to bed a couple times while it was light (if I feel shitty often times the fix is to just sleep more), I felt better than I did the other times I woke up but still felt shitty, ate dinner at like 5 or 5:30 and still felt like shit, ended up going to bed at like 7:30pm and then woke up at like 12am feeling better than I had earlier but still not great, watched some TV until like 2 or 2:30 and then went to bed again and slept until like 12pm or 1pm.  It was pretty crazy!

But ya, other than that, it was about normal.  Nothing else really to report, been doing alright.

And got some great news a few days ago

April 24th, 2009

Good news first, I got a PET scan last week.  I think the PET scan was to check if the remaining few lumps I’ve got are cancerous, Dr. Dragon said that the lymph nodes may not go back to normal size because of scar tissue (but have gotten way smaller anyway), so even though I have a slight amount of bulkiness and a few lumps left they may not be cancerous.  We got the results back and it was negative.  So that’s great news.  Dr. Dragon also said that my progress was “exceptional” or was it “excellent”?  It was something that meant great and started with an ‘e’. 🙂  Either way I still have to finish out the rest of my chemo, but ya, it’s good to know it’s working.

Anyway, about the PET scan, it was a little weird.  They put you in a room and inject you with some radioative stuff.  It’s kinda weird when the stuff getting injected into you is in a lead pipe thing with Read the rest of this entry »

still doing alright

April 24th, 2009

I suck at updating this blog apparently, sorry guys.

Three chemos back it was kinda bad, it was a little worse than usual and seemed to last at least a few extra days.  I didn’t feel nasueous really but felt weird and run down for a few extra days, but it did pass finally.  Chemo after that wasn’t as bad, more normal.  I had a chemo treatment yesterday and so far it hasn’t been extra bad or anything, but usually Saturday and/or Sunday are the worst, so we’ll see how they go.  Been working most days other than the Thursday of chemo to Monday after it.  Only taken off a day or two here and there other than that when I wasn’t feeling up to working.  So overall been doing pretty well.

Oh, and my hair apparently refuses to not grow.  What seems to be happening is that some falls out some time after a chemo treatment but then what fell out last time starts to grow back, because my hair is thinner than normal but doesn’t seem to be getting that much thinner and I have two different lengths of hair right now.  Kinda weird but cool I guess, we’ll see if I end up loosing more without having more grow.

been doing alright

March 10th, 2009

I been doing alright, worked on Friday, Monday and today.  Their was a film festival this weekend end put on by a buddy of mine at the community college, a bunch of indie movies and some cool looking stuff but I decided not to go because I didn’t want to get sick.  As it turns out, my mom thought she might be getting sick yesterday, I told her not allowed to get sick. 🙂 She doesn’t seem to have gotten it, so that’s good, ’cause then she can’t give it to me. If my cheek is any indication, I’d be sick for a damn long time. I messed up my cheek by eating to many lemonheads and it’s been messed up for over a week now. It’s starting to do better finally, I’m using the mouthwash more often (Biotene) and I think that’s what’s helping and I figured out how to brush the teeth under it a little better than when it first happened.

Should be going to work tomorrow and I’ve got chemo on Thursday, hopefully I’ll be able to get back to work sooner after it then I’ve been able to this last time.  We’ll see.

nothing happens, so I don’t have any snappy titles (aka update since last post)

I had another chemo treatment last Thursday, went fine.  I ended up in the big room with like 8 stations with a maze of curtains to partition them off (it was kinda cool following the tracks on the ceiling with your eye to see seeing how they designed the curtains so it seals off each area).  Wasn’t too bad, their wasn’t a TV in that room, which I kinda like, would rather just sit there and think than have a TV be on.  There was an old guy that came in and was talking and it somehow came out that he was 100 years old!  And it wasn’t like he was rounding up or anything, they ask you all the time what your name is and your birthday (and then look at the medication they’re giving you which has labels saying that on it) and he was born in 1908!  Total madness.  As a buddy of mine said, “He was old in the 70’s and is still here.”  Anyway, it went fine.  The nurse has been different each time and it’s kinda interesting, each nurse Read the rest of this entry »

update since last post and second chemo treatment

February 14th, 2009

Been a little while since I posted, been feeling better since then.  I laid low a little bit for a day or two and then started doing some stuff again, went to the grocery store, went to a buddies house to hang out, went and bought some shoes (my old ones are totally dead and that may be part of the problem with my hip and knees).  Didn’t really feel shitty (or only very slightly one or two days).  Overall been feeling better than I have for at least a month, maybe more like three or more months.  Actually went to work on Tuesday and Wednesday.  I felt a little tired after working but not shitty.  Feels good to not just be sitting around the house like I’ve basically been doing for more than a month, well besides going to doctors appointments.

Had my second chemo treatment Thursday, went fine.  I can feel the difference after chemo when it comes to nausea, but didn’t Read the rest of this entry »

oh and…

February 3rd, 2009

the x-ray thinger I was talking about when they put the port in, it says doppler on the bill, so apparently they were checking my weather system. 🙂

well, partially spoke too soon

February 3rd, 2009

Yesterday I only felt slightly nauseous but wasn’t bad.  I hadn’t felt shitty the few days before that, just nauseous.  Well, yesterday stuff needed to get done so I ended up doing a few things for the first time in a while.  I got a sub with my mom and then dropped her off to pick up my brother’s car that was in the shop.  Headed home because I forgot a paper and then went to the bank to get a certified check to pay the ichip insurance.  Oh, and I got accepted to ichip.  The insurance for any pre-existing condition doesn’t kick in for 6 months but if something else happens I’m covered.  The clinic discount is only for a year anyway, so anything after that would be out of pocket anyway and I’m going to need checkups and whatnot.  Anyway, I then came home and hung around for a little while and then a buddy of mine showed up.  We hung out with my mom until my dad came home and then ate dinner.  Hung out a little more and then we all played a game of rummikub and then he headed home at like 8:30.  Sounds like a pretty low key day huh?  Well, I felt like shit yesterday night a couple hours later and for the rest of the night.  I’ve basically been doing nothing for a month and yesterday was like one ioda more than nothing and felt like shit. 🙁  Was hoping to get back to work at least some but I don’t want to push it.  I’ll have to see what the next few days hold and if I do a limited amount of stuff and feel ok, I’ll see about getting back to work.

quick update

February 2nd, 2009

I’m doing alright, never had real bad nausea but did have some.  The day of I was pretty much fine.  Friday I felt a little bad but not much.  Saturday I was a little worse but not hugely worse, though I did eat cereal for dinner because if I ate more than that I think it would have been worse.  Sunday was worse still, just ate crackers with a grilled cheese sandwich (with just one slice of cheese) and a couple small pieces cut from a chicken from a roasted chicken from Jewel (grocery store).  Today I feel better than yesterday, shouldn’t have to limit what I eat too bad.  Ate a sub for lunch and that was fine.

The lumps and my goiter don’t hurt much anymore, at least for the last few days.  Don’t know if it will stay that way but here’s to hoping.  Since chemo I haven’t felt as shitty as I have for the previous last month or two.  So for now I’m doing good, the nausea wasn’t bad and is subsiding it seems and I feel fairly better now overall.  We don’t know what the other chemo treatments are going to be like.  I’ve heard that some people end up feeling more nauseous and sick after each chemo treatment, so that’s a possibility but it affects everyone different and most people I’ve talked to have other cancers so it’s a different treatment anyway.  So for all I know it may be no worse than it was this time for the rest of them.  It’s one of those wait and see kind of deals.

I finally took the tape off my incisions from the port surgery.  They both look pretty good.  They still have some of the glue stuff over them but that should be gone within a few days.  You can see the bump from he port better now with the tape gone and with the swelling down (which has been down for a few days).

ok, so chemo

January 29th, 2009

Was feeling like shit last night so I went to bed at about 10:30pm, which is real early for me.  Slept ok, not great but not worse than it’s been for the last month/month and a half and better than I did the night before.  Had to get up at 7am, WAY earlier than usual.  Wanted to give myself extra time to eat before going and do the few things I’m supposed to.  They prescribed some cream with pain killers in it that I’m supposed to put a lump over my port and then put suran wrap over it and go like that.

Got to the office ontime at 9am, or close enough.  Waited a little while and then was brought to the room, their was a nice old guy and his 30-something daughter there that talked quite a bit while they Read the rest of this entry »
