home now, and what happened since last post

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

I came home Thursday evening.  They were shooting for Wednesday but that would have been to early.  I felt much more ready (though maybe not fully ready) to go home on Thursday than I did on Wednesday.  Still don’t really feel like having visitors.

The wraps they started using on my lower legs on monday before I was released (and have used since) are (more…)

How radiation and recovery went (is going?) and what’s next

Friday, April 16th, 2010

Second (and last) week of ‘full body’ radiation went ok, throat got worse and sucked but not super terrible, just had to watch what I ate and remember to overly chew my food and it was ok.  I mean it blew but I could tolerate it.  Third week went ok but throat was still bad.  Needed hydration a few days ’cause I wasn’t able to drink enough liquid.  That was just targeted radiation on where I currently had disease.  Third week was (more…)

First week of radiation down

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

First week of radiation is over.  Weekends are off, so next day for radiation is Monday.  I felt weird Monday before radiation, like my stomach wasn’t right.  It had me a little worried but I ignored the worry and just monitored it basically, ’cause what could I do?  Like I said before radiation is twice a day.  Last week it was at 8am and then 2pm.  This coming up week it’s at 8am and 2:30pm.  Monday and maybe (more…)

radiation simulation was on friday, real thing starts monday

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Had the radiation simulation yesterday, which sucked.  Walked into the room and it’s all white with slightly dim lighting There’s this big ass machine with a platform/table under it.  It has a big thing jutting out at the top above the table and two smaller things jutting out to the left and right of the table (I think both sides).  They had me lay on a (more…)

snappy title

Been doing alright, feeling a little better this week than last week (last week felt slightly crappy but not to bad) but still not quite up to snuff. Mainly my new catheter has been getting me down. It kinda gets in the way and hurts a little but that’s not that big of a deal. The main problem is there’s really no good way to cover it when showering, so it’s frustrating. Using saran wrap or a ziplock bag and some paper medical tape kinda works but not (more…)

Done with stem cell harvest

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Kept meaning to post but never got around to it.  Well, the stem cell harvest is over, last one was yesterday.  Went in Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for it.  The goal is to get a total of 5 million per some-thing-or-other, Tuesday they got 1.7, Wednesday they got 2.4, so they had 4.1 for the first two days.  I don’t know how much they got on Thursday but definitely more than 5 total.  The machine that does it is (more…)

Not as long of a day as it could have been

Monday, March 1st, 2010

I went in this morning and they took my blood and shortly after got the white blood count back and it was good, like twice normal or something (so high because of the neupogen shots I give myself the last week+), and was able to get the catheter put in today.  It takes longer to get the platelets and/or stemcell results back, so didn’t have that in advance of putting the cath in.  It turned out they weren’t high enough. They were 15 and should have (more…)

should be in bed but…

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Should be in bed but wanted to do a quick update first.  I have to be up tomorrow at like 6:15am to get to the hospital to get surgery to put the new catheter put in my vain to do the blood stem cell harvest.  The fun’s not over after that though, it’ll be used that day (if I pass whatever metric in my blood test).  I’ll be hooked up to a machine that (more…)
